@cirvine11 Completely agree. That’s a fact. A third improved/enlarged ship with or with extra airgroup in the future. The first two are highly modular and judging by there hull section, and I can see hull stretch written all over them.

@cirvine11 Know where you’re coming from, the trouble with Britain and the Commonwealth is that we have too many politicians who only have thier own interest at heart and not the country’s. Ergo the money is usually spent unwisely, and the ones to suffer are the poor buggers who have to defend their country, so ships don’t get built, armies don’t get modern equipment and we have to fly outdated and outmoded aircraft. Been there, done that!

Opinion-The status of QE and PoW is being kept ambiguous on purpose so as to keep them off the chopping block (wise politics under the circumstances). I expect that when the economy improves-we’ll see both ships commissioned into the RN… with the planned air groups. Why am I so confident? The ships have a purpose-protect and promote vital UK worldwide interests. Cancelling the ships-or cutting one-will have a measurable net effect on those interests. This ships WILL sail.

I was catapult crew they are scrubbing those rollers clear of any oil rubber debris rollers could b clutched in /out individually, and rotated different aircraft types had different wheel track so different amount of rollers to be driven, an aircraft coming over those rotating rollers, would stop wheels on the rollers, and with the rollers turning, the aircraft would stop at the first unpowered roller, and therefore be centralized on the catapult for launch !small ps its Scimitar not SHIMITAR

There was never any barrier around the lift during flying stations, you just had to be careful.THiugh one PO on the Ark off the Vixen Sqd went down the hole during night flying.

Wouldn’t they want the cat and trap carrier first? What sort of aircraft will they fly from an LHA variant if the F 35 will be cut back or eliminated altogether?
strawhat14 said onJanuary 3, 2012 at 2:03 am
current plan is for both but queen elizabeth is to be a LHA till at earliest her 2022 refit, thou the decision wont be finalised until the 2015 SDSR, it is prince of wales (likely to be renamed ark royal) that will get the cats, traps and f-35
pramboy09 said onJanuary 3, 2012 at 2:26 am
yes there is is suppose to be 2 carriers the brits are building, queen elizabeth and prince of wales but it wouldn’t suprise me if they cancel prince of wales. they have already canceled the vstol version of the f-35 for the class it wouldnt surprise me if there are further cuts.
