    Well I live here in Ky myself and I’m getting ready to start aircraft maintenance school and I currently work at UPS, so lucky for me my school is paid for. Also to top that off UPS pays higher then any other company for aircraft mechanics. With an exciting career which is very rewarding you cant go wrong, just up, up, and up. lol

    @KYAIRCRAFT right on man! I was doomed to be in love with aviation before I was even born. It’s hard to explain the overwhelming appeal and constant on-the-mind properties of the whole thing to someone who doesn’t share it. I love cars too, but there’s just something about flying that fixes everything for me. This London fella must have had a bad crumpet.

    My nephew just graduated from aircraft mechanic school and the only place that is hiring is in the middle east. he wasted 2 years of his life for nothing now he is getting started in heavy diesel mechanics school to work on locomotives in the U.S.

    Cool back-n-forth going on here re car mechs v plane mechs. In the Navy, I had a friend proud to have finished machinist’s school & head to his advanced program. He got a serious heads-up from someone already on the job who said (basically), “Look, Squirt. We do the same thing any other mechanic does — we just do it to higher standards.”

    But, then nuclear submarines never were staffed by the happiest people. If you wanted to hang with “bouyant, wide-eyed optimists”, you joined the airdales.

    airplanes are cooler cause they can fly and are faster and you are not stuck in traffic jams.

  14. chillininlondon said on October 2, 2011 at 9:31 pm

    @anarchyXI
    Yes, the job is a tiny bit better. But that’s arguable too, nobody should ever have to be exposed to MEK, Skydrol, ALL those frequencies, etc.
    I’ve been on the 380 and yes it’s cool just another airplane though. All that innovation has been around forever. And don’t think for a second we couldn’t have free energy cars, our governments are too busy taxing oil for them to allow it.

  15. anarchyXI said on October 2, 2011 at 10:11 pm

    @KYAIRCRAFT Agreed! Cars are boring AND dangerous! What with the streetracing, overspeeding, drunk driving, driving rage and car surfing.
    I also hate how cars have become an etiquette of social status. It’s bordering on the “Tell me which car you drive and I’ll tell you who you are. “

  16. anarchyXI said on October 2, 2011 at 11:08 pm

    @chillininlondon …and cars still runs with /explosion/ engines? The A380 is not innovation? Controls by light, advanced electronics, and recently a geared turbofan, not to mention Shape memory polymers/alloys, now that’s innovation. In automotive they’re struggling with just reducing CO2 emissions and making a full electric car. Plus even if aircraft maintenance isn’t as fun as in the golden years, it’s still better than car mechanics.

  17. chillininlondon said on October 2, 2011 at 11:38 pm

    @RebelField
    Top gear sucks, they’re all just plugs and my car is faster than most of the junk on there anyways, and what I would like I cant afford anyways because I work on airplanes.
    That’s why I don’t watch that show, actually I don’t watch any T.V. at all for that matter.

  18. RebelField said on October 3, 2011 at 12:23 am

    @chillininlondon You have been watching to much top gear

  19. AeroframeServices said on October 3, 2011 at 1:06 am

    Aeroframe Services is hiring mechanics now.

  20. chillininlondon said on October 3, 2011 at 1:21 am

    @KYAIRCRAFT
    Everyone tells me I have a good job, I just don’t see it…
    If you work on Rolls-Royce, you’re still never going to own one, of any type.
    And even if you could own one, average people can’t relate to that.
    There’s way less innovation in aviation because it takes 15 years for something to get approved, we should have free energy and electrogravitics by now but we’re still smashing air with gas for some reason. Aircraft/maintenace was cool in the 1930’s but not so much anymore.

  21. KYAIRCRAFT said on October 3, 2011 at 1:45 am

    U must have missed the point buddy. Planes may not be for everyone but for those of us that have the flying gene it is impossible to stay away. Also cars are boring and have been that way for years, there is no new innovation in the industry unless its a new stereo. I will stick with my aircraft.

  22. chillininlondon said on October 3, 2011 at 2:04 am

    cars are cooler cause everyone can relate to them and most people can afford one
